Scholarship winners say “thank you” for life-changing opportunities

The many students at St Paul’s who have received scholarships to support their living and learning in College have been writing to donors of their scholarships to express their gratitude for this life-changing opportunity. This year, the College has awarded scholarships – principally on the basis of academic merit and financial need – worth over $1 million to undergraduate and graduate students. This scholarship support is made possible through the generosity of many alumni and friends of the College, to whom the College – like the scholarship recipients – is deeply grateful. Many scholarships are provided by the St Paul’s College Foundation, to which hundreds of people have donated, including through bequests such as that of the late John Booth. Several scholarships are provided through the ongoing generosity of such donors as Robert Albert and the Glendonbrook Foundation, medical alumni, and some anonymous donors. College thanks the Hon Rob Stokes MP and Mr Jihad Dib MP

Over recent months, the College has hosted both the Hon Rob Stokes MP and Mr Jihad Dib MP at dinner to thank them for their bipartisan work that resulted in the St Paul’s College Act of 2018 – the first new legislation for St Paul’s College governance since 1857. The St Paul’s College Bill 2018 passed State Parliament without opposition or amendment in either Chamber. Mr Stokes, then NSW Minister for Education, and Mr Dib, then Shadow Minister for Education, worked closely with the College last year to secure this governance reform (both men have moved to new portfolios since the 2019 State election). At the College’s invitation, Mr Stokes addressed students in Hall earlier this year, and Mr Dib did so this month. Mr Dib is a renowned education reformer, and spoke to the students about his transformative years as a teacher and later as Principal of Punchbowl Boys High School
