The College’s 2021 Rawson Cup Rugby campaign began on Tuesday May 4th against St John’s on St Andrew’s Oval. It was the second Rawson Rugby fixture of the day at St Andrew’s Oval, following Wesley’s 116-3 defeat at the hands of Drew’s.
John’s bounced back quickly from a very early knock-on off the kick-off, scoring a runaway intercept try from the scrum immediately after the initial error. 7-0. Paul’s went on to slowly but surely grind away against the men in the green and gold.
The wet weather, compounded by the fact that a game had already played prior, meant that the track was ripped up and slippery, making for quite a conservative and slow style of rugby. Good day to be a forward; bad day to be a back. Paul’s momentum picked up, despite constant stoppages for scrum resets and errors, allowing the College’s piggies to run in a number of tries. Final score 52-7.
The side will look to regroup and reassess areas that need improvement before the upcoming match against Wesley on Wednesday May 12th.
