Gusty, courageous, tough… No superlative provides due justice for the Warden’s Own XV’s performance against Wesley College on Monday May 10th, at Paul’s Oval.
Handpicked and coached by the Warden himself, the Own took on Wesley’s Rawson rugby side, after they forfeited their fixture against the Paul’s XV, and came away with a 7-all draw. Wesley made the decision to withdraw from the contest after their 116-3 drumming at the hands of St Andrew’s last week, anticipating a similar scoreline against the Paulines.
The match was played in great spirits and featured many current iconic College personalities, across all year groups. In the end everyone was a winner, the Paul’s XV came away with free Rawson points, the Warden’s Own tradition was able to continue, and the Wesley rugby players were able to enjoy a game of footy rather than a thumping. The Own now turn their attention to the next challenge; The Highlanders XV (Andrew’s).
